Good-bye- Haiku

This poem has little to do with traveling, but still wanted to post it for many reasons.

Good-bye

We fight for most things
We're like brother and sister.
I will see you soon.

Leaving next week now
I'll see you in September
For seven more months.

Although we fight lots
I do not hate you too much
Have a nice trip back.

Falling- Haiku

I'm about to end my trip and go back home for awhile. My last adventure for now, took me underneath a water fall on a jungle cruise!!

Cruising The Ocean- Free Verse

I got to go on a cruise recently and it was really exciting!!

The Big, Blue Book- Free Verse

This is the story of how I began wanting to travel.

It all started with that
Big, blue book
I had gotten as a present.
It had so many things to discover inside,
Every page turn a new adventure.
There were maps of places I hadn't even heard of,
Charts and graphs and interesting facts and many more.
I had to go these places,
Make sure the pictures didn't lie.
I want to thank that person,
Who got me the book,
Because without that
Big, blue book
I never would have seen the world.

A Family Trip- Free Verse

A trip up to Alaska was a lot of fun and my family came too.

Warm beaches and parks are my favourite,
But this old house will do.
Trapped up in Alaska,
In this old house.

This house has
broken bricks,
cracked tiles and more.
I still have a great time
Trapped up in Alaska,
In this old house.

Warmed by the flickering fire,
Making some smores and
Telling stories until our throats hurt.
This is fun, we must come back
Trapped up in Alaska,
In this old house.

Bright Firework Coming My Way- Free Verse

This poem is about friendships. Although this has nothing to do with traveling around the world, friendships do travel as well. Some friends will travel with you for awhile and leave for a new journey. Others will seem like they will never leave, but they do. But, TRUE friends will travel with you forever. They will stay with you through cold days and warm, stormy weeks and sunny months.

Hunger Games Diamante

Last week I saw The Hunger Games and thought it was a great movie. I wrote a diamante showing how different the Capitol and District 12 are.

Capitol
Beautiful, Rich
Shopping, Eating, Changing
Wigs, Food, Reaping, Peacekeepers
Mining, Starving, Hoping
Gray, Poor
District 12

As you can see the Capitol has WAY more than most of the districts. You can also see that this is sort of like us (Canada) compared to places like Africa.
*I know this poem doesn't have much to do about traveling, but I still wanted to include it.

From Place to Place- Shakespearean Sonnet

This Shakespearean sonnet is about the time when I first left to begin traveling. I am very sorry, I don't have a picture that I have taken to use for this poem. The rhyming pattern is ABCB.

I am about to go on a journey
France, New York, England- Oh where should I go?
Off to the airport I will be heading,
Getting everything on board is a show!

At least a place a week will be nice
Good thing I packed enough for a year.
I wonder what will happen while I'm gone
Off I go right now- I don't have a fear.

Traveling by train, plane, boat and more
Experiencing many nice places.
Where will I go today and tomorrow?
Wherever I am I will leave traces.

Away from my family- it's just me
Will my travels take me home? Just maybe!

On The Way To New Places- Diamante

This diamante compares a train to a plane.

Pigeon- Quatrain

I spent the day in Central Park reading and writing the following poem and saw a whole bunch of pigeons. There was one that was really interesting and I took a picture of him.

A Day in the City- haiku

I took a trip to Toronto and went to the CN Tower. On the glass floor I looked down and could not believe it.

A sparkling glass floor
Forces me to look down at
The small cars and streets

Metonymy Poems

I have written 3 different poems on subjects I care about. My first is about one of my favourite months of the year, especially when I was younger.

June
Summer has come
School's almost done
Flowers have bloomed
Lot's of sunshine
Everyone's wearing shorts
Drinking lemonade

The second poem I have written was inspired by my trip to Montreal. I got to go to my first We Day, which was so exciting.

We Day
Crowds cheering
Inspirational speakers
Flashing cameras
Life-changing experiences
Learning to make a difference
Having a great time

The final poem is something I have learned a lot about which is child labour.

Child Labourers
Working long hours
No right to speak
Little food
Under-paid
Getting Beaten
Very young

Drought in Africa- a haiku

Where has it all gone?
My throat so rough and dried.
The water has left.

Having a drought where you live can leave you sick and poor. With no water you can't drink, wash clothes, cook or water crops.

Diamante- Look How Lucky We Are

Being hungry is something we DO NOT understand. This diamante is about a child here in North America who has enough to eat compared to a child in a country who usually does not eat enough.

Full
Energetic, Happy
Chewing, Gulping, Swallowing
Stores, Money, Soldiers, Dirt
Crying, starving, dieing
 Thin, Upset
Empty

A Diamante and a Haiku

For my diamante, I did two places i have recently visited- Nunavut and New York City.
I call my diamante "Loud vs Quiet"
New York City
 Loud, Crazy
Shouting, Rushing, Shopping
Lights, Museums, Snowflakes,Inukshuks
Whispering, Walking, Sleeping
Quiet, Cold
Nunavut

For my haiku, I did a poem about the wind. Wind travels from place to places, just like what my blog will do overtime. This haiku is called "Cold Darkness"
Wind blows past a tree,
Into the darkness of night
As fast as lightning.

Introduction

This blog was created so I can post my poetry for school.
This blog is called The Wandering Suitcase because it is about a girl who receives a suitcase before she begins travelling around the world. At each destination she will write a couple poems and add them to her suitcase.
For my blog, I am working alone.
The central theme is based on going to new places and experiencing new things.
I hope you enjoy my blog and poems to come!!!
